ISSUE 18

THE PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Dear Flora Vista Families,

The time has come to say goodbye to 2021! I hope that as the sun sets on this year and rises on your 2022, you are able to enjoy some special traditions with your family over the winter break, or perhaps create some new ones. For me, I look forward to a bit of both - starting tomorrow with my first foray back into tamale-making since my cherished memories of helping my nana in the 1990s!

If you missed your chance to pick up your at-home COVID testing kits (for students to test on the Friday and Sunday before we return to school), TODAY (Wednesday) is the last chance, at Farm Lab until 2:30pm. Thank you for doing your part to keep our school community safer - and students learning in person!

And remember, if your child is fully vaccinated for Covid-19, you can share that information by using the Student C-19 Vaccination Record or bringing a paper copy to the school office when we return. A fully vaccinated student (defined as two weeks past their 2nd shot) is exempt from quarantine if they are determined to be a close contact to someone who tests positive for COVID-19. They are not required to get tested during a modified at-school quarantine, and they have no restrictions on extracurricular activities.

Lastly, if you didn’t yet have a chance to check out this year’s Flora Vista Talent Show, please put it on the calendar over the break! It’s become a fun tradition for my family to gather around with some hot chocolate and enjoy the show. It warms the heart to see the talents of our students. Go Falcons!!

Have a wonderful and safe winter break with your loved ones, and I will see you back in the new year!

Principal's Teacher & Staff Pancake Breakfast is finally back on campus!

Some things are getting back to normal!

Principal Juarez  and his amazing wife Elva were finally back at Flora Vista to bring back the Teacher and Staff Pancake Breakfast tradition on Monday, Dec. 20. It was held outside and the teachers and staff hurriedly ate before and during recess...it was awesome. This was a great way to reestablish a sense of community for our staff before break.

Thank you Principal Juarez and Elva!

ARE YOU READY TO RUN?

Jog-a-thon is Thursday, Jan. 13

Flora Vista’s annual Jog-a-thon is the first Thursday when we return from break. Keep training, Falcons!

We are excited to report we have reached our first goal of $30,000 in donations! Hitting this goal has earned us the prize of hitting Principal Juarez with a pie in the face - happening TODAY! One lucky Kindergartner from Ms. Lee's class was randomly drawn to do the honors.

Now only $10,000 more to go to reach our final goal of $40,000!

KEEP THOSE DONATIONS COMING and request pledges from friends and family at: http://pledgestar.com/floravista

Thursday Run Start Times:

K thru 1st 8:15,

2nd thru 4th 9:00,

Farm Stand

Another farm stand is in the books!  We had our student-led farm stand this past Wednesday, Dec. 15.

The enthusiasm and commitment the kids have shown makes the farm stand a huge success.  Extending our thanks to Natalie, Camille, everyone at the district, and Farm Lab for this program.

Save the date for our next farm stand on Wednesday, January 19th immediately after school.

Flora Vista Reads - Coming Soon!

Hello Falcons!

A reminder that Flora Vista Reads will begin on January 18th and go through March 18th.

This beloved FV tradition promotes the love of reading. Remember, it also counts when you read aloud to your students. And, if each student reads for 30 minutes or more,  they will earn a medal.

There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.

Great job Falcons! We loved watching you shine.

Notes from the Lunch Tables

Hello Falcons,

The sixth grade classes had been in residence at the Farm Lab all last week so our second lunch period was quiet with just the third graders. The quiet was nice on Monday, but by Thursday we were all missing them terribly. It turns out the 6th graders were creating and learning how to market salad dressings at the Farm Lab. I was fortunate to be a Judge at their "Salad Wars" contest Friday morning along with Principal Juarez and other District personnel. First of all, it was so nice to see all the 6th graders again. Secondly, the students, who were split into three different product groups, presented their dressings to the judges and absolutely nailed their assignments. All three groups had made quality products, listed their ingredients, devised mission statements, jingles, labels, and professionally marketed their finished product. The judge's scores were so close as we were all impressed by each group and their products. The three yummy dressings presented were: Spice Spice Baby, Lip Smacking Salads, and the eventual winner,  Lady Lettuce. I was so proud of all the 6th grade students and their great work. It was really cool!

Have a great week, a wonderful break, and let's make 2022 a year to remember.

Keep Being Awesome Falcons.
