ISSUE 20

THE PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Dear Flora Vista Families,

I hope this first week of 2022 finds you enjoying life at a slower pace, spending time with your family and perhaps creating some new traditions to go alongside your treasured ones. In addition to spending time with my girls, I also did end up making those tamales – and they came out pretty well, if I do say so myself! In that same tradition, I finally started reading through the incredible lifetime of books that my dad collected in his foodie travels through Mexico and the southwest. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen together, and so over the holidays especially, it brought such nice memories to see his handwritten notes throughout the cookbooks that I’m now using to chart a culinary course for 2022! My wish for you in 2022 is a year of good health, and the time to capture in some way the stories and experiences of the older generations in your family, so that these can be passed down over the years - and to help future generations to know who they were.

I look forward to seeing you back on campus next week, on Monday, January 10. Please remember that if you picked up the at-home COVID antigen test kits, these should be done Friday and Sunday, and results submitted via the Primary.Health link that you should have received via text/email. THANK YOU for helping keep students, staff, and FV families safe – and schools open! Like many of you, I’ve been watching developments of the Omicron variant, and I am thankful that we have a robust COVID-19 Prevention Program in our EUSD schools. Our district/site admin teams continue to work hand-in-hand with our nurses and teachers to implement any updated protocols from San Diego County Health. Remember, if your child is fully vaccinated for Covid-19, you can share that information by using the Student C-19 Vaccination Record or bringing a paper copy to the school office when we return next week. (A fully vaccinated student is exempt from quarantine if they are determined to be a close contact to someone who tests positive for COVID-19.)

I hope you have a wonderful finish to your winter break, and I look forward to seeing you back Monday!

Chris Juarez
Principal

P.S. Please join me for the next virtual Principal’s Chat, next Thursday (January 13) at 5pm! Zoom info will be sent out next week.

"What an astonishing thing a book is. It’s a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you’re inside the mind of another person … .” — Carl Sagan (Cosmos)

Notes From The Lunch Tables

Hello Falcons!

I hope that you all had lots of fun, ate well, rested, and stayed healthy. Coming up is the Jog-A-Thon, Flora Vista Reads, Kindness Week, and Inclusion in Action...whew!

I'm looking forward to hearing about all the cool things the students did next week. Until then...

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”

-Neil Gaiman

Slightly More Mature Jokes I Told My Family, Highlights...

Falcons only live 10 to 15 years, that means every falcon alive is a millennial falcon

Can you preform under pressure?

No, but I can try Bohemian Rhapsody.

My girlfriend dumped me when she discovered I only have 9 toes. Apparently she's lack-toes intolerant.

See you next week.
